He describes very vaguely the disk's importance, points out an image of what it should look like, and gives Polyblank his prescription of Missionoyl ("Don't take too much"). The first mission The Director gives to Polyblank is to retrieve a disk from the Soviet Consulate. The office has two rooms: a reception area with repurposed airplane seats and the Secretary's desk, and the office proper, which is in an old subway car. The Director's office is in Darlington Station, and this is where he gives Polyblank all of his mission briefings (as well as his Missionoyl). He tells Polyblank where to go and what his goals are, and is one of only two people significant enough for the Editor to kidnap and use as leverage to try to get his suitcase back (the other being the Secretary). The Director drives most of the plot of Jazzpunk (what little plot there actually is). He does try to keep Polyblank apprised of what's going on, so he seems to have some kind of dedication to his job, but he's not exactly helpful when it comes to planning out how a mission is to go down. The Director is a laid-back drunkard who can often be found passed out under his desk.
