![]() I can't say exactly how long as I haven't kept a record,but I have refitted radio's that have been out of their original vehicle for well over a year and have recoded themselves within a minute or so of being reconnected. ![]() The corresponding radio code is also stored in a non volatle part ot he ECU's memory that also stores things that need to be safe such as the MAP,the legitimate transponder codes and the firmware that runs everything else relevant to the running of the engine that it musn't lose evey time you disconnect the car's battery.īoth the radio and the ECU have volatile parts of their memory that are used to store things such as radio station presets and the running characteristics based on what it's learnt from the type of fuel you're using etc,all of which dispappear as soon as you disconnect the car's battery,hence the reason the security code isn't kept here. The radio has a non volatile part of it's memory where it stores certain things relevant to the vehicle it's fitted to,such as the equalizer curve for a Golf (It's different for a Passat,a Galaxy,a Polo etc) and also of course the security code,but as I don't know what type of memory they use,I can't say exactly how non volatile it actually is.
